This Level 2 Gym Instructor course will provide you with the perfect foundation for a successful career in the heath and fitness industry. To work on a gym floor is great fun, varied, and will often provide you with interesting challenges. To be a gym instructor allows you to have a positive influence on your customers lives and well-being, and will enable you the opportunity to build their confidence, improve their overall fitness and to help them train for specific targets.

There are many career paths open to those with this qualification and we can help you to explore them. Maybe you wish to choose full-time or part-time work as a gym or studio instructor within a health and fitness club, or possibly the option to becoming a qualified personal trainer? REP’s Points

Candidates who complete this course are accredited with 20 REP’s (Register of Exercise Professionals) CPD points.

Course Structure

This PS Pro Certificate in Personal Training course is provided as a distance learning course which involves a combination of home study and attendance days. All candidates are required to complete a theory test and a practical assessment. Relevant components of assessment will be covered during the course. The theory test will consist of a multiple choice theory paper.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course however we do advise that you have experience using cardiovascular equipment such as fixed and free weights within a gym environment.

  • Anatomy and physiology including:
  • The heart and circulatory system
  • The respiratory system
  • Structure and function of the skeleton
  • Musculoskeletal system
  • Postural and core stability
  • The nervous and energy systems and their relation to exercise    
  • How to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments- How to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients
  • The health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
  • How to communicate with clients effectively and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
  • The skills and knowledge required to plan, prepare, teach and evaluate a gym-based exercise programme - both for individuals and groups.  
  • Development of good personal technique on a range of CV equipment, fixed resistance, free weights and body weight exercises
  • How to apply basic skills that will enable you to include older adult, disabled, and antenatal and post-natal client groups in your sessions
